Job Description: Exceptional Children (EC) Teacher (K-5)

Position Overview: As an Exceptional Children (EC) Teacher for grades K-5, you will specialize in educating students with diverse learning needs, including those with disabilities. Your role is crucial in adapting and delivering an inclusive education that caters to the specific requirements of each child. The goal is to facilitate learning and development in a supportive and structured environment, enabling all students to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Development and Implementation:

    • Collaborate with parents, other teachers, and school psychologists to develop IEPs tailored to the needs of each student.

    • Implement IEPs, monitor student progress, and make necessary adjustments to meet learning objectives and compliance with federal and state regulations.

  2. Adaptive Curriculum and Instruction:

    • Design and deliver instructional activities that are suitable for students with varying abilities and backgrounds, ensuring access to the general education curriculum.

    • Utilize special equipment, technologies, and methodologies to enhance learning for students with specific needs.

  3. Classroom Management:

    • Create an environment that is understanding and supportive, promoting respect and positive behaviors among students.

    • Manage classroom dynamics and ensure a safe learning space that accommodates students’ physical, emotional, and social needs.

  4. Assessment and Reporting:

    • Conduct specialized assessments to evaluate student abilities and progress.

    • Prepare detailed reports on students’ learning, behavior, and achievements, keeping thorough records as required by the school and regulatory bodies.

  5. Collaboration and Communication:

    • Work closely with other classroom teachers, special education staff, and specialists to integrate services and provide a cohesive educational experience.

    • Maintain ongoing communication with parents and caregivers, informing them of their child's progress and ways they can support learning at home.

  6. Professional Development:

    • Engage in continuous professional development to stay current with educational research and emerging technologies that benefit special education.

    • Share knowledge and strategies with colleagues to enhance school-wide practices and support systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Valid teaching certification in Special Education.

  • Experience working with children with disabilities, particularly in an educational setting.

  • Deep understanding of the pedagogical theories and practices relevant to special education.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Patience, creativity, and a compassionate approach to teaching.
