Job Description: Exceptional Children (EC) Resource Teacher (Grades 6-8)

Position Overview: As an Exceptional Children (EC) Resource Teacher for grades 6-8, you will provide specialized instructional support to students with diverse learning needs in a middle school setting. Your role is essential in helping students access the general education curriculum, develop essential academic and social skills, and achieve their full potential. By collaborating with teachers, parents, and other support staff, you will create inclusive learning environments that foster growth, independence, and success for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Development and Implementation:

    • Collaborate with the IEP team, including parents, general education teachers, and other specialists, to develop comprehensive IEPs for students with disabilities.

    • Implement IEPs in the classroom, providing accommodations, modifications, and specialized instruction to meet students' individual learning needs.

  2. Small Group Instruction and Intervention:

    • Provide small group instruction to students with disabilities, focusing on remediation, reinforcement, and extension of academic concepts and skills.

    • Use evidence-based instructional strategies and multi-sensory approaches to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.

  3. Curriculum Adaptation and Differentiation:

    • Adapt and modify instructional materials and assessments to make them accessible and meaningful for students with disabilities.

    • Differentiate instruction based on students' strengths, needs, and interests, ensuring that all students can actively engage in the learning process.

  4. Progress Monitoring and Data Analysis:

    • Regularly assess student progress using formal and informal measures, collecting data to track growth and identify areas for intervention.

    • Analyze assessment data to inform instructional decisions, adjust teaching strategies, and set meaningful goals for student achievement.

  5. Collaboration and Consultation:

    • Collaborate with general education teachers to align instruction, share resources, and support the inclusion of students with disabilities in the general education classroom.

    • Consult with parents, providing regular updates on their child's progress, discussing strategies for support at home, and soliciting input on their child's educational goals.

  6. Professional Development and Growth:

    • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in special education practices, instructional technology, and evidence-based interventions.

    • Stay informed about current research, trends, and best practices in the field of special education, applying new knowledge to improve student outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Valid teaching certification/license in Special Education.

  • Experience working with middle school students with disabilities, including knowledge of middle school curriculum and instructional practices.

  • Strong understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

  • Compassion, patience, and a commitment to advocating for the needs of students with disabilities.
